The Ri 1000 prints white ink onto dark garments; the SP-1 prints high-color sublimation ink onto transfer paper, and you then heat-press that paper onto polyester or coated substrates.

In my experience, the two machines complement each other. If most of your merchandise is polyester sports products, mugs, or mousepads, the SP-1 is likely to pay for itself faster than trying to make the DTG printer do everything. If most of your orders are 100% cotton tees, buy the Ri 1000 and skip the SP-1. The mistake I almost made was ordering both in the same year and using them as if they were interchangeable. They are not. A sublimation printer only works on materials that accept sublimation ink, which is mostly polyester or polymer-coated items. Oh, and transfer paper is a recurring cost you need to include in the budget.

The common print standard for commercial work is 300 DPI at final size. Large-format graphics that people view from a distance can be 150 DPI. For our shop, buying a Ricoh for apparel and a separate UV printer for rigid items was the right cost decision. The UV printer is not part of our Ricoh budget.
